Ted Giacomis Senior Park in Exton Now Open
From the Uwchlan Township website:
The Ted Gacomis Senior Park was officially opened on Saturday August 12th, with a special dedication ceremony.
The park has been several years in the making. It aims to provide a safe space for seniors to exercise, socialize and to have fun. This is the first park of its kind in the region – specifically designed for seniors.
The park is dedicated to Ted Gacomis, who was our Township Engineer for more than thirty years.
Many hands were involved in making this park a reality. Special thanks to:
Doug Hanley – for having the vision.
Scott Greenly – for supporting the project through to completion.
Kristin Boldaz and the team at EB Walsh - for final engineering, overseeing construction and supporting us to get a $175k grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
The Rotary Club – for their generous $20k donation to our pavilion, providing that all important shade.
Berg Construction – who placed a generous bid for this work to play a part in honoring Ted’s legacy.
Kelsey Stanton & Ed Therakauf – for their landscape architecture design.
Uwchlan Township Parks Department – for faithfully watering the grass during the summer months and purchasing new maintenance equipment.
DASD Art Department and 2023 Downingtown East High School Graduate Julianna Upham - for her beautiful rendering of Ted for the sign at the park.
Ellen Gacomis – for sharing Ted with us at the Township for so many years.
Bruce McKennay – for all your oversight and everything in between, big and small.
The park has bocce courts, pickleball, gaming tables, exercise equipment and a walkway. It is also fully wheelchair accessible.
It is located on Uwchlan Ave next to Lionville Middle School. Ted was the Township Engineer for West Pikeland Township as well for several decades, and we commend Uwchlan Township on the establishment of this park in his honor.
