Save the date! Historic Yellow Springs is very excited to announce that they will be teaming up with the Chester Springs Library, SALT Performing Arts, the West Pikeland Township and Life's Patina for a very special event on October 23rd to celebrate the village of Yellow Springs hitting the map 300 years ago in 1722! Visit HERE for updates!
This year marks Yellow Springs hitting the map 300 years ago. In that time this village has been a place of healing with the spa and Revolutionary War Hospital, a home to orphans after the Civil War, a backdrop for aspiring art students, a motion picture mecca and now a nonprofit organization committed to preserving this unique history and the buildings and landscape where it all took place. When you enter the village it is almost like stepping back in time! One of the common themes among all of the past inhabitants was reusing the buildings and grounds with minimal change to the environment. With the founding of Historic Yellow Springs as a nonprofit, our mission since 1974 has been to share, preserve and celebrate the unique living village of Yellow Springs. With the focus on history, art, education and the environment, Historic Yellow Springs enriches the lives of all who come here. There is no village like it!
To celebrate our 300th anniversary we will be having a village open house. This will also be a great opportunity to reintroduce the village to our surrounding communities and the wonderful programs, classes and events we offer today! It is their support and yours that will keep Yellow Springs vibrant for years to come! This one day event will allow visitors to explore the village inside and out, and learn about the distinct history. Stroll through the village and explore the historic buildings and structures including the springhouses and pool house! We will have lots of activities for all ages spread throughout the village including:
• History Scavenger Hunt • Kids Halloween Parade • Trick-or-Treating • Live Music • “Meet and Greet” with Cinderella and Prince Charming from Salt Performing Arts • Glow For Good Nonprofit Pumpkin Carving Contest • Kids Crafts • Yard Games • Revolutionary War History Lecture • Artist Demonstrations from the Chester Springs Studio • Tree Tour with 4 Seasons Arborscapes • “Make and Take” Bracelets from Beads of a Feather • 1982 – 2022 Yellow Springs Art Show Poster Exhibition • Basket Raffles
Admission is free and parking is available in the Washington building lot and in the field next to the Chester Springs Studio.
